Make your music productions sound professional and ready for broadcast and distribution!
macProVideo is excited to bring another great mastering tutorial to our growing library! We’ve explored mastering in Protools and Logic and now we’re focusing our mastering spotlight on our growing family of Cubase musicians and engineers.
Mastering is equal parts art and science; It’s a crossroads where technology and creativity merge together to form an audio super highway. And who would be better to be in the driver’s seat than our favorite Cubase expert, Matthew Loel T. Hepworth!
In this 4 hour mastering exploration Matt guides us through all the concepts, terminology, tools and techniques that the mastering musician/engineer must “master” no matter what software or hardware they use. On our way we learn about combating and conducting the loudness wars, utilizing the mastering plugins including compressors, mulitband compressors, EQs. limiters, maximizers and the infamous Apogee UV 22 HR, and the ways master for different musical genres.
That’s the science. What about the art? Well that is where this amazing tutorial really shines. Matt shows and tells his philosophy on mastering. You will see and hear how he approaches making music sound and “feel” better. And by witnessing Matt’s thought processes, and applying what you’ve learned, you will be able to approach your music with a new understanding of how you want it to sound and how to accomplish your mastering goals.
Whether you’re a Live, Logic, Protools or CUBASE user, this awesome mastering tutorial by Matthew Loel T. Hepworth will help you make your music, louder, feel better and stand apart from the pack. Enjoy!

My understanding of mastering process was rather messy until I watched this course. I still have a log way to go to successfully master my songs, but things are now clear and I am much more confident and willing to try. Excellent material and presentation.
Although presented with a Cubase 5 project, this is still well worth watching if using more recent versions of Cubase, as most of the details are still relevant. There is also a good deal of non DAW-specific mastering information that would be useful for anyone wanting to know about mastering on any equipment.
It's 2013 and I'm using 6.5 Artist. Everything in this video is still relevant. Of all of the $$$ I've put into my studio this is the most well-spent $50. Even if you already know a fair amount amount about mixing and mastering (like I thought I did), Matthew's step-by-step explanations are golden. Most of the lessons are short, so if you already know how to do that particular task, you can easily skip to the next one. You'll probably want to watch them all anyway.
Thank you for your video . It was amazing . And I hope to find some mixing courses in cubase . I think mixing is a grate art and sienc and I need to know about that . Thanks again .
As someone who is new to audio and doesn't even use Cubase I have found a wealth of information in these videos about Mastering in general.
Amazingly explained by Matthew. Easy to understand. Thumbs up for Mattew and MacPro. Pleas continue developing this kind of trainings. Thanks
Excellent video. Well spoken, Well discriped and great quality. But I wish there was more discription on what to program the Multiband compressor based on. By that I mean some methods for finding the settings of each knob rather than testing different values all day to see what to type in. Also I expected to hear about the use of Stereo Enhancer on a track. Thanks to all. I hope to see more videos on Mastering soon. :-D
The content of this tutorial is indispensable if you want to learn how to master projects inside Cubase. But, there was too much good info for me to absorb in only 1 viewing. So, I purchased and downloaded the HD version. I highly recommend purchasing the HD version. First, it is much easier to watch in HD. It looks far better. Second, the chapters play back automatically without having to click on each one to begin its playback. Third, it was cost effective. I have spent way more $$$ for tutorials that didn't even come close to this one in quality and scope of information.
This tutorial is EXCELLENT!!! I highly recommend this for both those that are mastering in Cubase and for those who just want to get up on a simple but effective way to master. Mr. Hepworth never disappoints on any of his Cubase tutorials and this is certainly no exception. Clearly explained, wonderfully illustrated, and easy to follow. A must have and the best I've seen on the subject so far!!!
Just real good! Well laid out as to What to use, When to use it, and How to use it...whatever IT happens to be at a particular time or situation for mastering. It's so nice for me to have a tutorial video that is this well done. I'm using Cubase 6 now, but no problem. It all seems to apply without a problem. I'm not near ready to 'master' yet, but I've followed along and tried some of the techniques with short examples of my own, and I can see that when I'm ready, this will be the key for me!
Another great tutorial. It was very useful to see him master the track toward the end and get to watch him working in real-time. It's really helpful just to watch what someone else does, and he's also good about filling you in on why he's doing everything he's doing. Really excellent. These could not be better.
The best way to learn cubase. Matthew is very good, easy to understand, the vidéo is full of example. Thanks Matthew and all the tram.
Hello, I subscribed to MacProVideo.Com two weeks ago. Man, the Cubase Tutorials by Matthew Hepworth are simply marvelous. Not to put other companies down but, I have four of the "Ask" Videos on Cubase and they do not touch the sensitivity of Matthew's teaching. I met Matthew at the NAMM Show last year and did not realize he is the "Guru" of Cubase. His teaching is excellent. Thanks MacPro-Vid. and thanks Matthew. :0)
Excellent training, I have read so many books and they still lack the practical knowledge that this video offers.
Book marks are needed! Everything else is PERFECT!
Excellent video. Great knowledge and explanations of terms and software operation. I would pay for more Cubase instructional videos.
Excellent videos, very clear, perhaps the best way to learn these programs.
Just when you thought your finished song couldn't sound any better, Matthew opens up another box of goodies to take your project to the next level. If you want to get every dollars worth out of your Cubase, you need to get Mastering in Cubase. Awesome!!
Matthews way of teaching makes you want to pay attention. He goes over not just what the chapter is for, but also the things you need to know to understand that chapter.
