Scott Freiman unveils the incredible sampling power of Native Instrument's Kontakt 4 in this comprehensive series of tutorial-videos.
In this tutorial, composer and sound designer Scott Freiman shows you how to use Native Instruments’ powerful Kontakt 4 sampler -- the sampler that has rapidly become a standard in every professional studio. New and novice users alike will find plenty of tips and tricks scattered among this 3 hour course.
After a brief series of “getting started” videos, Scott gets right into music making with Kontakt. Scott will introduce you to all the features that make Kontakt so much fun to use. Topics include creating a database of your own samples, using Kontakt as a plug-in (with a special guest appearance from Steve H!), automating Kontakt with MIDI, and getting the most from the Kontakt browser. The course also takes a detailed look at each of the sample collections that make up the Kontakt Factory Library.
Whether you are migrating from another sampler, such as Gigastudio or EXS-24, or completely new to sampling, Exploring Kontakt will teach you everything you need to know to use Kontakt as part of your composing arsenal.

What a relief is this course of Kontakt 4 compared to the other one, which I just finished. The first one was a monotonous recital of every tab, knob and slider from A to Z and was a burden to go through and listen to it all. This second course however is an example of how subjects should be taught. Chapeau!
Although currently the update software is Kontact 5, this course about Kontact 4 is really interesting, with many examples and very useful. Nice job!
I decided to go back to this course on Kontakt 4 for a refresher, and I have no regrets. They are additional snippets of extremely useful information that are not contained in the Kontakt 5 courses. Also, it is also a chance to get another tutors percpective. I would recommend anyone taking the Kontakt 5 courses to browse through these. 5 star all the way.
Awesome course. Even though i haven't bought the full version of kontakt yet, i'm just using kontakt elements for now. but i am definitely learning some good stuff.
Just got Konakt, and needed a primer. This is a great course overall. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that there are times when not enough information is given. I'll give one example: There's a lesson toward the end about banks, and changing instruments within banks by sending a program change message. But it is never explained how that is accomplished. One other beef is that a great portion of the time is spent on the stand-alone instrument, and I will almost never use Kontakt as a stand-alone application, and there appear to be some differences. Now, it may be that changes have been made in the release of Kontakt 5, and I realized this is a 4 course, so in the update, that may be addressed. That being said, I gained a lot of useful information, and was nice to see (hear) the Steve H cameo in the Logic section.
This course really gets you up and running and to use the basics of Kontakt to edit your sound without going to deep. Also shows you how to setup Kontakt in a DAW to run midi and host automation.
this is a really usefull when you are a beginner, number 48 movies, it is cut at the end, really powerfull plug in, i hope in the next tutoriel i will find all about reaktor as this tutorial. thanks
Really great overview of Kontakt 4 (still very useful for Kontakt 5 users). Lots of info in here. I'm looking forward to watching the Advanced Kontakt course. Then on to Kontakt 5.
I like the way he presents. I am on a crash course with midi and NI and this is really helping
Very good course. Excellent teacher, excellent voice to listen to. I am pretty much a beginner so there were sections I did not understand. I'll have to review these as I work with Kontakt. But I found it a great introduction
I'm a new Kontakt 5 user and longtime Logic user. I wanted to get an understanding of the functionality in Kontakt and start creating projects. Scott's course is absolutely fantastic and all the material clear and concise. As a Kontact 5 user there were minimal differences as the course was created using Kontakt 4. I've already started Advanced Kontakt and I'm sure I'll be reviewing this course in the near future. Thanks Scott and Macprovideo.
An excellent introduction to an excellent product. Scott's presentation was professional and authoritative. I did want to mention one technical issue, currently the link for the "What's new in Kontakt 4.1 Part 1" video just plays the 58-second wrap-up video. "Part 2" works fine. My impression is that the "What's new" videos were added later, and there was a mix up when updating the video links. Despite that, still a great course.
I hate dealing with the technicalities today's samplers and DAWS! That's why I love MacProVideo's presentations! Going through this Kontakt learning tool I'm finally getting a handle on the general operation of Kontakt. I've had Kontakt for years, but have not really had a grasp of even the fundamentals. But now, I'm beginning to understand how this thing works! Thanks! Dennis
Great instructive presentation, really makes you really want to dive in. I give it a 5 without hesitation. When will it be Reaktor's subsynths turn? There's not much of anything anywhere on these mysterious little music apps. Looking forward to what's coming next.
This video is just what I needed to break into Kontakt and sampling in general. It provides a very good overview of the interface and library so that anyone can start making music very quickly. The foundation laid was just right for the Advanced Kontakt course, and the Kontakt manuals are much easier to use now. The bite-sized clips made it very easy to review material when necessary.
A very good tutorial explained in detail by Scott Freiman, the only reason I did not award a 5 for this tutorial is that Scott in one of his lessons could have compiled a complete project within Kompakt with a song using various instruments from start to finish with levels, effects, etc as Martin Sitter did in logic 101.
I finally had a chance watch this video and it is an excellent resources for getting going in Kontakt 4. This software instrument is very deep and Scott Freiman demystifies this powerful production tool in very clear and engaging presentation. Be warned you will not learn everything after just one viewing, I use it as a reference video guide also.
Great video a real must for people buying Kontakt.
This guy is a natural teacher! I have seen other tutorials on Kontakt, none has made this beast-of-a-software so easy! he went straight to the features, not the boring technical stuffs, most musicians want to work with the sound and not worry about the technical details of the tool, I use electricity daily, but who wants to know "flemings right hand rule" "(I did some physics, you see....!) COOL! MACPROVIDEO, you are the best, younger than the rest, but more innovate than them all! if others (the other tutorial companies) read this, please be challenged by Macprovideo. Macprovideo, please do some After Effects tutorials, I am sure more people will love your work and join! cheers
Much needed tutorial for Kontakt... :)
This was an outstanding presentation, IMHO. And that's from the viewpoint of having given similar technical presentations over several years' time to demanding professionals worldwide. Well-organized and exceptionally well-delivered, this course is very much worth the time and tuition (I purchased the HD and will be reviewing as the need arises). macProVideo would do well to commission a course by Scott that covers just the Orchestral elements of Kontakt, demonstrating how to get the best, most realistic performances it's capable of producing. I'd purchase that in a heartbeat.
I have used Kontakt for some time as plug-in with Logic - I had previously bought the NI DVD on how to use Kontakt so I interested to see whether Scott Freiman's Macrovideo would just cover the same ground I have seen before. I was pleasantly surprised to find that although the tutorial is aimed at inexperienced users, it presented the information with great clarity and included some really practical tips and tricks to significantly improve my workflow. A very useful adjunct to other material you can source directly from Native Instruments. Well done.
Your courses are very easy to watch and you are up to date with the latest versions of each program Even better if the tutorials was added with a project at the end of the course (with same project files and samples for the exercise) Example 1: Creating a song amd mixing it in Cubas Example 2: Kreating your own Instrument in Kontakt with effects and maybe some added scripts to that Best Regards Jan-Eric Piper
This introduction to Kontakt is well laid out and presented. Scott Freiman presents the information clearly and in an interesting manner. The turorial videos are firmly aimed at the beginner. I look forward to learning the more advanced features of Kontakt in the next release.
105 for Kontakt 4 is what I needed to get up and running efficiently with Kontakt. The information is complete, well organized, and to the point, so when you want to review it again, you don't have to wade through a lot of useless humor, stories, and value judgements. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
An excellent tutorial, very good instructor gives succinct explanations. The audio was missing on a few lessons however this was remedied almost immediately by MacProVideo. Looking forward to the next one.
can't wait. This is my fav sampler / instrument! I hope this covers the new Kontakt 4.
