Join innovative music producer, Eyal Amir, as he reveals the magic behind his advanced vocal production techniques in this unique, new MPV tutorial series: Outside The Box...
Vocal production and arranging is the driving force behind every hit song. In this tutorial, producer and composer Eyal Amir explains how and why he created the vocal arrangements in his latest tune, Latin Dream. See how he works with the captivating vocalist, Tammy Scheffer in creating, the seemingly simple yet extraordinarily complex, vocal tracks in this beautiful recorded, original production.
What makes this tutorial especially unique, is how Eyal combines his DAW screen capture shots alongside actual session footage of Tammy singing to provide both technical and visual illustrations on how he accomplishes his wonderful and unique vocal soundscapes.
Eyal also shows you how he studiously designs his complex lead, doubling and backing vocal tracks. Listen as he explains how he constructs his vocal arrangement to heighten the emotional and lyrical impact of the song. Also included in this tutorial are a series of videos examining Eyal’s harmony, counterpoint and harmonic target note techniques that form the harmonic foundation of his vocal arrangements.
So if you're looking for some new and creative vocal production ideas, let Eyal show you how to think Outside The Box and bring your vocal arrangements to a whole new level

WOW, this guy (and his friends, sure!) are phenomenal! He's very nice, too!!!
Second tutorial with Eyal Amir (I also did his new Cubase 8 course). I really like him. And, as was the case with his previous course, this one was very useful. Moreover, you can apply much of these lessons to other aspects of music composition. Again, I hope to see more from Eyal and particularly courses using Cubase 8. I will return to a this tutorial for refreshers. Cheers Eyal.
Outside the Box - Vocal Production and Arranging is a great starting course for covering studio techniques and musical ideas in relation to vocal production. Examples are included that show these techniques being implemented. The concepts are discussed in a manner that makes them easy to learn if you don't already know these techniques. Looking forward to the more advanced courses and what they have to offer!
The song was 6 out of 5 stars! The lessons were mostly aspirational.
Concept packed tutorial filled with a inspirational and insightfully guiding trainer.
Absolutely amazing tutorial! The composition itself is great, original and totally inspiring. As for the techniques shown I'll definitely try them out. Well done!
If you record ever vocals, you NEED to watch this. It really is as simple as that!
This course gives a good overview of vocal production techniques, but perhaps should be presented as an introduction. Complex subjects, such as counterpoint, need further in-depth coverage, whether here or separately.
I liked it, but If you don't have much theory knowledge and practice you won't make much use, the ideas are well exposed, but have space to make a much longer tutorial with more explanations.
An excellent summary of various and very useful techniques for blending vocals into your music, Amir is a very talented musician and the singer has an amazingly clear voice ranging several octaves.
Awesome! You have given a whole new perspective on vocal producing. :)
Great Tutorial! really worth watching , I thought the "counter point" "Phrasing", and "Splitting" vocal technics were great in this course.
Really good videos that touches on musical as well as production technique. The split tracking was really interesting, fixing stuff before it breaks!
Eyal made an awesome tutorial for vocal production, which can also work for other instruments. Cool song. Cool video technique. Amazing vocalist (and beautiful!). More like this, please!
Really enjoyed this tutorial. He explains in a way that is easy to grasp and understand. Really interesting how this song was produced and tracked.
The arranging ideas were interesting and nicely presented. I felt there could have been a little more information in regards to the production side. Panning is mentioned but he does not say where he pans the tracks in the stereo field. Would have been nice to see/hear how he eq'ed the vocal tracks. A presentation of his use of compression, delay, reverb would have been nice as well. In the end, it seemed to be rather short.
Overall I think this is a good course with some very insightful tips and tricks you can use when arranging your vocals. The video was a bit choppy however and I found that to be distracting.
Absolutely OUTSTANDING!! Excellent techniques! Top notch demo of them and how to utilize them. Entertaining AND highly informative!
Many good techniques, well explained, that I'll add to my bag of tricks (love the multi-angle view with the multiple layers). Every technique is well explained, and we can listen to the voice track, with and without the music.
Eyal is really great. He breaks it down in an understandable manner that TOTALLY makes sense. Not a big fan of the song but the lessons learned is the main point.
This guy is amazing. If you're recording vocals he's your guy. He really "breaks down" the key components. He's truly knowledgable and I would recommend this to anyone looking to better there vocal production.
Wow!!!! This guy is amazing! And the musicians are world class!!! GREAT tutorial!!!
This lesson was really good. Explained many techniques like Counterpoint very well and gave lots of examples with vocals only, then again with the instruments. Looking forward to trying some of these concepts in my productions. Thanks Eyal & MacProVideo!
I really enjoyed this tutorial, and the song is amazing, and the production is incredible. I think that Eyal has a gift as composer, remainds me a kind of Zappa in his sense of freedom and humor. Congratulations from Chile
A lot of content in this tutorial. I didn't like too much the song itself, so it was a difficult for me to find my way. But, the techniques explained are really useful. I was already using some of them and I will be able to understand how to create a good vocal harmony. More about mic placement would have been great, but the goal was not on recording vocals so it's fine.
I might have bought this anyway, but hearing the song pushed me over the edge. This track is off the dial, it's just insane and so brilliantly assembled. Eyal does a good job of explaining some of his thinking. I can see myself returning to watch this one over and over, if for no other reason than to shake my head in amazement at how it all comes together. Bought the track on iTunes, too. I hope to hear more from Eyal.
Great tutorial. Really liked the song and the form how it was produced. Eyal did a great job breaking down his complex composition in pieces and demonstrating how to work vocal phrasing, counterpoint and doubling to accomplish an amazing result. Hopefully macprovideo will bring up more material similar to this one.
This is good stuff. Having been in the business of making records for 40 years I think that this vid is really mostly a reminder of what I have done via experimentation in studios and at home for years. For a new generation of computer bound music makers this is probably a must see! The production values are excellent!!
Great ideas from the expert. Can really add substance to your songs and bring them to life. Really enjoyed this. Thanks Eyal!
Great, easy learning material, and a special song, to represent different techniques when arranging vocals, but these can be applied to any "lead" instruments also. Very fun song, and the video production is top notch and entertaining. Dear MPV, we want more on this production topics!
Some great ideas here and I am going to be looking for places in my work that I can use some of Eyal's ideas and techniques. I think I'll find the lessons on doubling especially useful. My issue with this tutorial is that it leaves out one very big issue with vocal production, and that is mic choice and placement. You see the singer singing into the mic in different positions (straight up, on its side, slanted at different angles toward the singer), but never a mention as to why different positions are used. Also, Eyal uses a pop screen in narrating his tutorials, and the singer does not in recording the vocal. As a user of a pop screen, I would have liked to hear why a pop screen was not used, and if it's desirable to record the vocals without a pop screen, and why. Overall, some very helpful tips on making exciting vocals, or making vocals exciting.
YES. more of this! the music sounds like stereolab, the video production is great, and eyal is really fun to learn from. great ideas here and a new level of production value from MPV.
I really enjoyed this tutorial; short and concise, focusing on the important stuff, that's exactly how I think people wants it. I really feel I've learned some important things here, thank you Eyal and MPV!
