Lots of good information here but as a WordPress video it's out of date. There is still relevant information regarding the general principles of WordPress, but if you are wanting to follow along with the current version of WP you're out of luck. Minus one star here. Presenter is clear and goes into good detail about the features and usage of WordPress, but overall the course spends too much time on areas and programmes that are extra to WordPress e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop etc. Minus one star here. A more concise, updated WordPress video is required here.
I managed to get some good information from this session, however, I feel there was a lot here that should have been in a 102 session rather than this 101. It goes on for a long time, quite often seemingly at tangents - although it’s all relevant. As a 101 session I think it could have concentrated on the basics a lot more, therefore resulting in a more concise and focused session. It feels as though these videos are a ‘port’ from a previously issued set of videos or a DVD rather than specifically written for a 101 module, so that may be the reason it doesn’t fit the bill quite as well as it should. Having now gleaned the basics from other sources in addition to the information provided here, I am now looking forward to the actual 102 session of this series.
Great course, clear instructions, nice voice. Funny at times as well.
Good course, but it left me wondering how to upload the site I designed in Wordpress installed in my computer to Wordpress online.
This was another good course, I learned a lot about customizing and using Wordpress, and will continue with the next series.
Good basic start on WP. I'm not sure why we detoured into PHotoshop and Illustrator. I wish he would have spent time on transferring a local site to a different server.
Very informative and fun. A little bit longer than it probably could have been. Learned some stuff especially about running wordpress locally
I liked the walk through on installing from .org. i already have a .com blog and was wondering how to make it better. I heard how it was all free and didn't understand that you have to pay for the cool stuff on the .com side. I now have a great feel for it and once I am better at all the other programs I intend to learn here my dite will be awesome! (I hope) I only give it 4 stars because the content files are not available anymore.
This course met the stated objectives, but at 3 1/2 years old is dated. Enough of the presented information has changed to warrant an updated course.
He is a great wordpress expert. I love he covered the Photoshop and other adobe products. Great job.
Excellant! I thought Geoff was entertaining as well as a great teacher, covering everything I needed to know. I will be back for more tuts from Geoff. Thanx
Great tutorials with A LOT more information than I would have expected! I was only using maybe 10% of what was possible Wordpress before watching this. The light is on now! Great job!
Really enjoyed this tutorial. Despite the fact that WordPress is now at a later release than the one in this tutorial, pretty much everything is 100% relevant and accurate. Geoff has an enthusiastic, pleasant and relaxed style and covers topics with patience. A terrific start with WordPress.
There's a lot to cover for wordpress, and Geoff did a good job making sure we start off right. For total beginners, you may find a lot of materials and questions left unanswered, as Geoff briefly introduced some lessons on graphic design (i.e. photoshop, illustrator, and computer image properties). Some of those lessons may be intimidating to some beginners, but Geoff still explained them quite well. So if you didn't understand everything, that's fine as long as you can still perform the exact operations Geoff showed you in the videos. Some of those stuff will come to you later. Instead of using Google to help you get started with wordpress, this tutorial by macprovideo is really the way to go ;)
Great enthusiasm for web design. I liked the history of web design that was mentioned throughout and how Wordpress really is powerful. We're lucky to have it. We're also lucky to have this tutorial to learn the ropes SO FAST! I'm already gliding through my own website. I look forward to the sequel. I hope it dives into plug-ins more!
The best part of this review for me was learning how to install the thing! Oddly complicated. So this was a great walk through. After that it pretty much went over pretty basic and obvious things if you've ever worked with computers, social networks, blogging, and basic website making. Then again, I suppose as it is an introductory tutorial you have to go over that stuff. He was very good about not going to fast. I pick up on things fairly quickly though so it was at times boring. But I've noticed that about most tutorial vides and I suppose it is better to go slow than to move too quickly. Lastly, there were some minor things like mistakes that weren't edited out and missing project files that should have but didn't come with the tutorial. It didn't have an effect on my learning though. I was hoping to get into more customization which this doesn't get into. It sounds like he has that tutorial though and I hope macprovideo adds it to their collection. I'd buy it.
I have only used it (wordpress tutorial) for basic stuff so far. Looking forward to bigger challenges and solutions. Quality is first rate. Another hit as far as I'm concerned. Thanks.
