Starting out

HUB no outline

  • Point 1: -200, 200
  • Point 2: 200, 200
  • Point 3: 200, -200
  • Point 4: -200, -200

Plane geometry

  • back, Position Z: -200px
  • left, Position X: -200px, Rotation Y: 90°
  • right, Position X: 200px, Rotation Y: 90°
  • top, Position Y: 200px, Rotation X: 90°
  • bottom, Position Y: -200px, Rotation X: 90°

Cube group

Camera controls

  • Select the Camera object in the Layers panel.
  • Choose Inspector > Properties.
  • Press the Reset arrow in the top right of the Transform section.
  • To avoid messing up the Camera position in future, you can use an alternative view.
  • Choose View > 3D View > Perspective, or press Control-P.

Bland 3D cube

rotation settings

Cube standing on a point

The behavior spin

Spin parameters

Two sweep behaviors applied to the camera

positioning with those coordinates does not give me a perfect cube - something I'm doing wrong?

Well, I just re-followed my own steps, to the end of part 3, and I got a perfect cube. If each side is 400px square, and each side is rotated correctly and positioned at 200px from the center point, it should be right.

Not sure what you might have done wrong, but if you want to post a Motion file or a screenshot, I might be able to help.

Thanks, maybe my size is wrong, does he state its a 400px sq - I missed that then

I thought each side is at 200 px, as per geometry point settings

You won't actually type in 400px anywhere. You give -200px to +200px in X and Y, which gives 400px wide and high.

as per his geometry settings, I double checked I matched those - still does not look right

If you have a picture of what you're seeing and/or a copy of your Motion file, I'd be happy to take a look. I'm the tutorial author, so if there's a problem I'd like to track it down.

KcR
sure, is there a way to attach a file
Feb 24, 2012
Rounik
The best way to attach a file is to use a service like box.net or yousendit.com then paste the address here.

Found the problem in your file. The front side hadn't been moved, but it should have had Z: 200. The left side was moved to X: -200 AND Z: 200, but it should only have had X moved. So, it looks like you had the left side selected when you changed Z to 200 rather than the front side. Also, the back side needed -200 not +200.

For anyone checking this, Right/Left are +/- on X, Top/Bottom are +/- on Y, and Front/Back are +/- on Z. All other values should be 0.

Thanks for the follow up and diagnosis - will retry the steps
