Ableton Live’s Sampler is extremely powerful. In this hands-on tutorial Dance music performer and sound design expert Olav Basoski shows you how he uses Sampler to create the original sounds that elevate and enhance his productions...
Sampling is huge in music production. We all use samplers, but very few of us know how they work and how to effectively deploy them in our productions. Ableton’s awesome Sampler is seamlessly integrated into Live’s workflow which makes it both easy to master and intuitive to use in both your “live” and studio tracks.
This tutorial is divided into two parts: Part One begins with a look at how sampling works. You’ll see all of Sampler’s basic controls and functions as Olav guides you through all the options on Sampler’s GUI. Once its functionality has been clearly explained, Olav takes a deep, sonic dive into sound design.
And now the fun begins: In Part Two you're invited into Olav’s audio workshop where you’ll see him create his sonic masterpieces. He turns vocals into kick drums AND funky bass parts. Master Basoski then shows you how he designs swooping sweeps and staccato stutter FX. He also does some cool “oldskool” time-stretching.
So join Olav Basoski in this informative Sampler sound design tutorial and see how you can release the outrageous audio potential locked up in Ableton’s premium instrument: Sampler!

I've used Ableton and the Sampler for years and I still found this a great tutorial. Anyway of making the most of Ableton's native instruments has to be a good thing in my opinion!
Ableton can seem very intimidating with all those tabs. However, once you know what does what, as explained in this video, the process seems that much easier. Good Show Macpro.
Shows just how creative you can be with samples to generate whole new sounds. You start to see that all sounds are "linked" - just depends how you process. Olav's style is a little curt, but direct.
If you ever though that simpler was good, wait till you get a taste of sampler, I do recommend first watching Richard Lainhart's Synthesis tutorials first to get the most out of this.
Great course Olav! Very thorough look at Sampler! I especially enjoyed the sound design section on how to make drums and synths out of any piece of a sample!
Amazing tutorial. Really gives a good feel of the scope of Sampler. Olav is a great instructor.
Fantastic tutorial. You don't always get to find information on some of the add-ons for Ableton Live, so I was very pleased and impressed with this one. Olav is very clear and easy to follow.
thnx Olav :) the way You present things, explain and teach is cool and really educating. Top!
Olav never ceases to amaze me with his technical know how. He's easy to follow & you come out of his tuts with fresh ideas for your own production. Without pretense MPV you're a financially accessible online top university for musicians & more, just in case you didn't know_You're the future now, definitely ahead of the curve, that's why you're hard to beat. Keep'em coming!
Really top piece by Olav again. Superbly explained, some great tricks of his own included which is always helpful, not just showing you how it works but how he uses it is a valuble thing. i can honestly say i know all about Sampler now, I've been using it and can fly round it in seconds. Superb. Thanks MPV & Olav.
Sampler has been one of Live's unsung heroes . . . this video is full of useful details on this excellent instrument . . . and Olav's smooth delivery is an added bonus! Highly recommended!
Listen Olav has a great way to bring musical info.. Information that is hard to get regarding to what and how the sampler can be used. I love macProVideo.com period.
I think your tutorials are always superb! You may remember this but I am a brain injured person from a bad auto accident and your videos taught me so much. They had a huge impact on my recovery at the same time while learning a huge amount of info on something I love the most, Music. Thanks and keep up the good work with the great videos you produce!
Thanks for this great training! I have learned a lot of detailed stuff regarding sampler. I really like trainings from Olav he explains everything really detailed and with a lot of fun. Sampler is indeed one of the most misjudged sampler actually available and for me personally a good addition to Kontakt as it can things which Kontakt can't and vice versa.
