This in-depth course, by Apple video expert Ben Balser, starts out with a detailed discussion on transcoding, the different video formats and the most popular compression codecs. The next section zooms in on Compressor basics where Ben takes you on a tour of the interface and the workflow. You learn about Settings, Groups, Locations, Destinations, Markers, Job-tracking and more.
Now you're ready for the advanced stuff! In the next collection of tutorials, you learn about Compressor's advanced features like Frame Rates & Size, Cropping, Padding, Effects and Metadata.
The final sections of this course are all about workflow. You first learn how best to set your system preferences, deploy distributed processing and configure keyboard shortcuts. This is then followed by a series of tutorials explaining various workflow schemes that'll get you outputting all kinds of video for integration with many different applications including Final Cut Pro and Motion.
So if you need to do compression and transcoding, spend some time with Ben Balser and learn how to do it right!
Very balanced tutorial. Not too geeky and full of theory, but not too simple to not be useful. I love it when instructors here on MPV go beyond a basic visual manual (example: "the play button is here... when you push it, the video will play... The stop button is here, etc"). Great information even with a small amount of compression theory and enough concepts to get you up to speed and not put you to sleep. Very well explained and in-depth enough to be worth your time. Now he just needs to make an advance course that gives more details on things like Retiming and what Motion Compensated and Adaptive Details really do and when/ how to use them. You get enough information here, but I WANT MORE! Thanks for one of the best compressor tutorials I have seen.
